She was inspired to create the concept of Unfair & Ugly after watching Arrested Development, wanting to see a similar show about Brown people who are flawed, but still lovable. Cinematographer Anup Kulkarni is an award-winning cinematographer and visual effects artists whose work includes the 4-time Academy Award winning film Life of Pi, the award-winning film Thor: The Dark World, as well as on the MTV Movie + TV Award-nominated film Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
Assistant Director Jo-Dean Roark is a comedy writer and director from Minneapolis and based in Los Angeles. She holds a BFA in Drama from NYU and is also an alumnus of Teach for America (Mississippi Delta). With Issa Rae Productions, she created and directed Black Student Union (BSU). She is also the creator and director of Dorm Therapy, Max Compact, and a writer on several series for Black&Sexy TV.
Wardrobe Stylist Saniyyah Bilal is a bi-coastal wardrobe stylist with a diverse sense of style. She has a Bachelors of Science degree in Fashion Industry Management and MBA from Philadelphia University. Her recent styling work includes SXSW-Award Winning film “Jinn”, a short film based on an Iranian family, “Grey Matter”, and styling Alfonso Ribeiro in episodes of Americas Funniest Home Videos.
Sound Designer Eric Marks specializes in crafting rich, dramatic mixes for a wide array of content including Netflix shows, E3 trailers and Super Bowl commercials. He has been the lead re-recording mixer on broadcast content for the NFL Network, Star Wars properties, HGTV, Mattel, Amazon, Netflix and EA. He is a member of the Motion Picture Sound Editors society, where his work has been nominated for four MPSE Golden Reel Awards.
Makeup Artist Adrianne Alusha is an artist, designer, and metalsmith. After studying at FIDM, she earned her BFA in Sculpture from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
